Most of us have to deal with lameness and laminitis at some time in our ownership of horses and ponies. For this reason we have made these the topics of our lecture evening on 4th April 2008. It is open to anyone who wishes to come. The presentation on lameness by Malcolm Morley is aimed at all horse owners from experienced riders to novices. By using over 30 videos of different lamenesses we hope to show you the key features we look for when assessing lameness. Many of you will know John Stewart who has been a respected local equine vet in the Winchester area for over 21 Years. Increasingly much of John's work has concentrated on the management and shoeing of laminitics and we are grateful that he has agreed to speak on laminitis. His talk will be aimed at practical measures that can be used in the management of laminitics as well as more in depth information about the causes of laminitis. Tickets will cost £2.50 per person but all the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH). David Guy, the local ILPH inspector will be present to talk about some of the ways in which the ILPH helps horses in our area. David is an extremely experienced inspector and we are very grateful to have his backup whenever it is needed. The evening will begin from 6pm with light refreshments available. The presentations will start at 6:30pm sharp. Please note the evening will not be at the practice but will be held at Itchen Abbas village hall. The village hall is very easy to find as it is on the main road in the middle of Itchen Abbas. For more detailed directions and a map please click here.
