Alex Sergeant

Alex graduated from the University of Bristol in 1996 and began her career at Stable Close Veterinary Clinic, a mixed practice where she helped develop the equine side of the business. She later worked at an equine hospital in Berkshire before returning to Winchester in 2003 to co-found Stable Close Equine Practice.
Her main professional interests lie in equine sports medicine and the investigation and rehabilitation of poor performance in equine athletes. Alex is also a qualified BHS Assistant Instructor and has competed in British Eventing one-day and three-day events up to Intermediate and 2* level.
Outside of work, she enjoys training her young Irish Sport Horse and spending time outdoors with her Labrador, Barney.

Vicky Jux

Vicky graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013. After completing an internship in the Equine Hospital at The Royal Veterinary College, Vicky has spent the last 10 years working in solely equine practice in Hampshire. She enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary care, with a particular passion for diagnostic imaging. Vicky has recently completed her RCVS certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice and is currently studying towards her RCVS certificate in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Outside of work, Vicky loves hacking her Irish Draught horse, Ember, across the Hampshire countryside, usually accompanied by her Korthals Griffon dog, Louis.

Rebecca Fellows

Rebecca joined Stable Close in 2021 from a neighbouring Hampshire practice. Prior to this Rebecca spent the early years of her career in Australia working in a busy referral hospital with specialist centres in reproduction and orthopaedics. From Australia she moved to Liphook Equine Hospital where she completed their well renowned internship and stayed working on the road team after that. Rebecca has a special interest in the rehabilitation of sport horses and particularly enjoys being part of a multidisciplinary team with the aim of preventing rather than treating lameness.

Bridey Shawyer

Bridey graduated in 2022 from the University of Nottingham and worked in ambulatory practice and hospital across Hampshire and Isle of Wight, before joining Stable Close in 2024.
She has a passion for equine internal medicine, with a particular focus on dentistry.
Outside of work, Bridey enjoys riding her ex-racing thoroughbred, Oscar and walking her dachshunds, Nuala and Indie.

Archie Moffat

Archie is a familiar face in the Hampshire equestrian community, having grown up locally and competed in endurance riding with his Arab. He began his career with a six-month internship at an equine hospital in Devon, followed by a mixed clinical and teaching role at Charles Sturt University in Australia. Archie has a broad interest in all aspects of equine veterinary care and is committed to providing thorough, knowledgeable care to horses and their owners. Outside of work, he enjoys running and playing cricket and hockey for local sports teams.

Kirsty Barnard

After graduating from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2010 Kirsty completed her internship at Onderstepoort Equine Hospital. She then spent four years in equine practice in Johannesburg before moving to the UK in 2015. She has worked in equine ambulatory and hospital based practice in Surrey and West Sussex and is also an experienced racecourse vet. Kirsty enjoys being outdoors, she loves walking her dog and trail running.

Jayne Bonner

Jayne joined Stable Close as the Office Manager in 2022. Her background is in financial administration, medical insurance and has a special interest in Equine facilitated learning and cognitive therapy. She lives locally with her two children alongside her rescue dog Lola who you may meet if you visit our office. Jayne also has two horses – Reza, a home bred Caspian and Kite, a cob adopted from World Horse Welfare.

Sue Grace

Sue has been with Stable Close Equine since 2008 and is responsible for stock control. She has worked with horses and ponies for many years as well as in a local doctors’ surgery. Sue has a small flock of Jacob ewes and is often in the office with Ruby, her dog.

Tanya Lane

Tanya joined Stable Close Equine in April 2018 after working for a high street Bank for over 30 years and has main responsibility for insurance claims. Tanya has one horse Storm, an ex-racehorse and also owns a German Shepherd, Nico.

Izzy Parker

Izzy is an experienced medical receptionist and has decided to combine her experience in this field with her love for horses to work in our equine office. Izzy owns her own horse, Lou and works part time at the Candover Stud handling their broodmares and foals. Her dog Luna comes to work in the office with her.

Jo Hopwood

Jo has a diploma in horse management and has trained in equine and business studies as well as attaining her BHS stage I and II levels. Jo was a long standing client of the practice for many years before sadly losing her retired New Forest pony William. In the winter months Jo enjoys watching the Basingstoke Bison ice hockey team play.

Rebecca Reilly
Office team

Rebecca has always grown up around horses at home and still competes her own self-produced horse Spirit, alongside others she rides outside of Stable Close. Previously she has lots of experience working hands on with dressage and event horses on busy competition yards with the additional experience of working with horses in an Animal Assisted Therapy setting. Before working she really enjoyed completing a degree in BSc Equine Sports Science at Hartpury University.
